The steps are slip-resistant, and wide enough that my 4 year old can sit on the top step and "cook" at the kitchen counter. I also like the locking feature - you can easily tell if you have properly set the stool up before you step on it. And it folds down (not quite as easily as I had thought it would) to take up minimal space when not in use.
